DeKalb Workforce Development (DWD) is a non profit government agency dedicated to providing the residents of DeKalb County with the tools that are vital in securing and maintaining employment. Here at DeKalb Workforce Development, we not only assist adults and dislocated workers with WIA funded training, and job searching we also assist DeKalb County’s youth by providing them with the tools they will need to be successful in today’s ever-changing workforce.

SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT
DeKalb Workforce Development has begun accepting applications for the 2009 summer program. The program will last 10 weeks with training beginning on May 26, 2009. Work sites will include DeKalb County Government, Non-Profit and Community-Based Organizations, Entertainment, Healthcare and Private Businesses. Applications have been made available through DeKalb County High Schools and DeKalb Workforce Development. The deadline for application submissions is April 30, 2009.

The verifiable eligibility requirements include, but are not limited to the following:

    • DeKalb County resident, 14-24 years old at the time of application
    • Males 18 years of age or older, must have registered with Selective Service
    • Verifiable household income that meets federal low-income guidelines or family receiving public assistance, including food stamps and TANF
    • Applicants must be able to legally work in the United States
    • Meet one of the following criteria:  (if applicable)
      • Basic skills deficient (read or math below 8th grade level)
      • Have a disability and/or an active IEP (Individual Education Plan) documented by the Board of Education
      • Performing below grade level
      • Pregnant or a parenting youth
      • School Dropout
      • Foster care, homeless, or runaway
      • Offender or with some involvement in juvenile court system

When applying for the Youth Summer Employment Program the participant should bring the following verifiable items:

    • Verification of the last six months income (last six month pay stubs)
    • Proof of residency in DeKalb County (utility bill of parent/guardian or mortgage or lease agreement)
    • Original signed Social Security Card or the Social Security Number Verification letter from the Social Security Administration Office
    • Birth Certificate, State ID Card or Drivers License
    • Food Stamp Card (if applicable)
    • Copy of Individual Education Plan (if applicable)
    • Proof of TANF, SSI or Disability (if applicable)
